PHILADELPHIA, PA - Senior Jenna Rastatter finished second overall and freshman Hailey Bierling’s 13
th-place showing proved to be the difference as Bonner & Prendie claimed the 2017 Philadelphia Catholic League Girls’ Cross Country Championship in dramatic fashion on Saturday afternoon under brilliant sunshine at historic Belmont Plateau.
On the boys' side, La Salle College repeated as champions as the Explorers had runners finish in each of the top five places.
Bierling crossed the finish line in a time of 22:13.40 as the Pandas edged defending champion Cardinal O’Hara by a single point, 42-43. Samantha Gliwa (21.32.50) placed sixth overall, while Bonner & Prendie sophomore teammates Corrina O’Lock (22.02.30) and Maggie Salter (22.13.30) finished tenth and eleventh, respectively.
After finishing third a year ago, O’Hara senior Elizabeth Mancini cruised to the individual title with a time of 18:41.40, while teammates Katie Till (20:32.40) and Kaitlyn Durning (21:40.80) placed third and ninth overall. Junior Casey Ems (20:47.60) of Archbishop Wood came in fourth, while Olivia (20:59.90) and Serena (21:38.00) Pisicano of Little Flower were fifth and seventh, respectively. '
Archbishop Wood finished third overall with 92 points, followed by Little Flower (102), St. Huberts (129), Archbishop Ryan (133) and Neumann-Goretti (192). Archbishop Carroll, Conwell-Egan, John W. Hallahan, Lansdale Catholic and West Catholic had individual runners compete but did not figure into the team standings.
The top-15 finishers in the girls' race earned All-Catholic first-team distinction, while those placing 16-thru-20 garnered second-team distinction and 21-thru-25 received honorable mention.
2016 PCL runner-up Evan Addison of La Salle College captured the boys’ individual title in a time of 16:19.70, while Vincent Twomey (16:44.30), Ethan Maher (16:46.10), Sean Egan (16:50.40) and Bradden Koors (16:50.40) rounded out the top five overall as the Explorers defended their title with a perfect score of 15 points. Bonner & Prendie senior Anthony Harper placed sixth overall with a time of 16:58.30, while senior teammates Tom McNicholas (17:16.20) and Jack Becker (17:23.70) of Cardinal O’Hara finished eighth and ninth overall in a field of 73 competitors.
Cardinal O’Hara compiled 58 points and placed runner-up in the boys’ race, followed by St. Joseph’s Prep (97), Father Judge (113), Roman (119), Bonner & Prendie (149), Lansdale Catholic (225), Archbishop Wood (230) and Archbishop Ryan (234). Archbishop Carroll, Conwell-Egan, Neumann-Goretti and West Catholic had individual runners compete but did not figure into the team standings.
The top-15 finishers in the boys’ race earned All-Catholic first-team distinction, while places 16-thru-25 received second-team distinction and 26-thru-35 garnered honorable mention.
