Archbishop Ryan & La Salle College Seize 2017 PCL Soccer Championships

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Archbishop Ryan captured the Philadelphia Catholic League Girls' Soccer Championship, while La Salle College earned its second consecutive boys' crown on Monday evening at Northeast High School.
Sophomore Gianna Monaco's goal just 3:31 into the second half proved to be the difference as top-seed Archbishop Ryan edged No. 2 Lansdale Catholic, 1-0, in a thrilling title match. The win marked the Ragdolls' second PCL crown in three seasons. Both teams posted identical 10-0-1 records in PCL regular season play and now advance to postseason competition.
Archbishop Ryan will face Central at 7:00 p.m. in the District XII 4A Championship at Northeast High School on Nov. 1, while Lansdale Catholic meets Benjamin Rush in the 3A title game at 5:00 p.m. on Nov. 1 at Northeast High School.
Senior Jacob Mittman's goal with 9:29 remaining in the contest off a deflection from keeper Kevin Tobin lifted top-seed La Salle College to its ninth PCL title in program history with a 1-0 victory over Roman. La Salle College advances to the District XII 4A Championship and meets Northeast on Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Northeast High School. No. 2 Roman was vying for its second PCL crown in three seasons after posting a 10-1 record in PCL play during the regular season.
