PHILADELPHIA, PA - Rising sophomore Sara Hayes of the Saint Joseph's University field hockey team - and 2017 graduate of Cardinal O'Hara High School - has been recognized for her community service participation by the Athlete CRUSH College Impact Awards, as she was named a finalist for the group's Catalyst Award.
Hayes took part in the Campus Ministry Appalachian Experience (APEX) spring break immersion program in March. She and a collection of Saint Joseph's students spent a week in Virginia, fostering community and the spirit of serving others while also working at Habitat for Humanity sites in the region.
Hayes also worked with MAGIS, a weekly service group for freshmen. Members did at least three hours of service each week at various sites in Philadelphia.
A four-sport student-athlete at Cardinal O'Hara, Hayes led the Lions to four District XII and three Philadelphia Catholic League field hockey championships.
