Throughout the winter as students and parents made their way out of the parking lot and exited the campus of Archbishop Carroll High School, a line of cars would slow to a halt just as the driveway bends to the right. With each passing day, as the sights and sounds of construction crews and heavy machinery filling the far corner of the campus, a spectacular setting was coming to life before their eyes.
An unexpected March snowstorm rolled into the area, covering all of the clues on how the finished product would appear. On Saturday, Apr. 1, the wait will finally end. Archbishop Carroll will host its first varsity baseball game of the 2017 season versus Springside-Chestnut Hill Academy at its new on-campus facility.
“This Saturday [April 1] is the culmination of a powerful collaboration between the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Cabrini University and Archbishop Carroll,” says Mr. Frank Fox, President, Archbishop Carroll High School.
“The successful completion of this outstanding field reflects the growth mindset of the Archdiocese to fully support their educational institutions.”
The project was financed by Cabrini University and Archbishop Carroll under a long-term agreement reached between Archbishop Carroll, Cabrini University and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Cabrini opened the home portion of its 2017 schedule with a 12-6 victory over Eastern University on Mar. 8.
“The result of this partnership will be future generations of Archbishop Carroll and AOP high school students will be able to compete at one of the finest facilities in the entire state,” says Fox.
The facility features a state of the art AstroTurf infield and outfield with clay pitching mounds on the field and in the bullpen areas, as well as a pair of turfed batting cages. Spectators will be treated to excellent views of the action from both elevated areas behind home plate and down the entire right field line. It is a must-see venue for any enthusiast of high school baseball.

“The new venue is an awesome place to play a baseball game and to watch. The new field brings not only a new look but also a new energy to the Carroll baseball program,” says Archbishop Carroll second-year head coach Mike Costanzo.
“It is a large step in the right direction for the program and the school, and I am super excited to be a part of it.”
