PHILADELPHIA, PA - Renee Shultz of Bishop Shanahan High School has been named the 2017-18 Gatorade Pennsylvania Volleyball Player of the Year. Schultz is the first Gatorade Pennsylvania Volleyball Player of the Year to be chosen from Bishop Shanahan High School.
The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Shultz as Pennsylvania’s best high school volleyball player. Shultz is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year award to be announced in January,
The 6-foot senior setter recorded 713 assists, 330 digs, 108 kills and 46 service aces this past season, leading the Eagles (37-1-1) to the PIAA 4A finals. A four-time All-State honoree, Shultz was also a four-time first team All-League selection, and was named the
Daily Local News Player of the Year.
A member of her school’s DECA Club and Community Service Corps, Shultz has volunteered locally on behalf of Habitat for Humanity. Shultz has maintained a 4.20 GPA in the classroom, and will attend Yale University in the fall of 2018, where she will play volleyball.
