Archbishop Carroll Claims 2019 PCL Girls' Volleyball Championship In Five-Set Thriller

ASTON, PA - Archbishop Carroll rallied after dropping the first two sets to edge top-seeded Cardinal O'Hara, 3-2, in the finals of the 2019 Philadelphia Catholic League Girls' Volleyball Championship on Sunday evening before a spirited crowd at the Mirenda Center on the campus of Neumann University.

The win secured a fourth consecutive league crown for the Patriots, who dropped a 3-1 decision to COHS on Sept. 4.

The Lions took the opening game by a 25-12 margin and increased their advantage to 2-0 with a 25-19 win in the second game. After taking the third game by a score of 25-16, Archbishop Carroll jumped out to a 17-12 lead in the fourth game. However, Cardinal O'Hara stormed back and came within a point on four different occasions (24-23, 25-24, 27-26, 29-28) of clinching the match, before the Pariots closed out the fourth set by a 31-29 margin.

In the fifth and deciding game, Archbishop Carroll took a quick 4-0 lead and never trailed en route to a 15-8 victory and jubilant celebration on the court. Led by senior Paige Monastero and junior Megan McCann, the Patriots will play for the District XII 4A Championship at 4:00 p.m. on Nov. 1 at Bonner & Prendie. Their opponent from the Philadelphia Public League will be announced this week.

Regan Hickey, Emily Collins and Bridgett McGuinn delivered standout performances on Sunday evening and will lead Cardinal O'Hara in the District XII 3A Championship at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 at Bonner & Prendie.  Their opponent from the Philadelphia Public League will be announced this week.
