What makes Bishop Shanahan such a special place?
“The people that I was with there with, including the teachers. The memories I made there. I came in not knowing anyone because I went to public school up until high school. I came in and didn’t know anyone, and the friends I made, everyone accepted me like I was there my whole life. The teachers were very helpful with things. It was just a good vibe and good atmosphere there. I never felt like I didn’t fit in or belong there.”
Your fondest memories as a student-athlete Bishop Shanahan:
“My junior year when we won our first playoff game ever in football [BSHS 37, Upper Moreland 7 – 11/8/14). That probably has to be my No. 1 memory.”
How Bishop Shanahan prepared you for balancing academics and athletics at Miami (OH):
“They did a very good job. When I was at Bishop Shanahan, I felt like the coursework challenged me and prepared me for what I had to do for college. When I came to college, I never at any point never felt the work was too hard or stressful. The workload and the way the teachers went about giving us the workload and helping us at Bishop Shanahan really set me up for success. So once I got college, it felt like high school again but just new material.”
Assess your play as a rookie in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020:
"I thought I did a pretty good job. It was certainly an odd season, so the fact that I was even able to make the team without preseason games was a big accomplishment. But I wasn’t just satisfied with that. I wanted to contribute, be out there and play a lot. As the season went on, I just really kept my head down, kept thinking ‘what can I do to get better.’ My reps just started to go up and up, but even at that point I never felt complacent. I wanted to keep working on things. From an overall standpoint, I feel like it was a pretty good year, but there were some things I wanted to have back or get better at. But those are the things I’ll work on in the offseason. From a whole, I feel like a I did a pretty good job for my first year but I want to get better as the offseason goes on.”
Was there a point in your rookie season when you started to feel more comfortable and confident?
“I would probably say the Bengals game (Oct. 4). I was fortunate enough to make a tackle on my first play. That game really boosted my confidence. But I would say the first game I started (Oct. 18 vs. Detroit). My confidence rose, and I felt like I belonged and could make plays and contribute.
Your football offseason goals:
“Just to get bigger, faster stronger. Change my diet and my body in a better way. I want to re-watch some of the film and look at what I did right and what I did wrong. I trained in Indianapolis last spring with [former Colts defensive standout] Rob Mathis. So I’m going to go back there and work with him again because I feel like he did a really good job of preparing me for the season.”
Your offseason plans outside of football:
“With COVID it’s kind of hard, but I didn’t get to really see the city Jacksonville or the surrounding areas last year. So maybe take some road trips around Florida. Right now I am back home [in West Chester] enjoying some time with family.”
