SPRINGFIELD, PA - Senior guard Jaylen Stinson scored 21 points and classmate Marcus Randolph added 18 as Archbishop Wood captured the 2021 Philadelphia Catholic League Boys' Basketball Championship with a 68-59 victory over No. 2 Roman on Monday evening on the campus of Cardinal O'Hara High School.
The Vikings (16-0) secured their second PCL crown in program history and first since 2017. They will face Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on Mar. 17 in the PIAA District XII 6A Championship. The contest will be played at La Salle College HS.
AW took a four-point lead into the half at 33-29 as junior Mike Knouse drained a deep three-pointer in the waning moments of the second quarter. Trailing 52-41 entering the fourth quarter, Roman (10-2) closed to within 60-55 with just over two minutes remaining on junior Matijia Radunovic's three-point field goal from the left wing. However, the Cahillites could not get any closer as Stinson converted clutch free throws down the stretch. Senior Rahsool Diggins dished out 12 assists and added nine points, while classmate Muneer Newton chipped in nine points on 3-of-3 shooting for the Vikings.
Making its 41st overall appearance in the PCL finals and seeking its third league title in four years, Roman was led by junior guard Khalil Farmer, who poured in a game-high 22 points, while Radunovic and junior Daniel Skillings added 13 points apiece.
