PHILADELPHIA, PA - Sophomore Kate McManus placed runner-up to lead five Lansdale Catholic finishers in the top 18 overall as the Crusaders captured the 2022 Philadelphia Catholic League Girls’ Cross Country Championship on a picture-perfect Saturday afternoon at historic Belmont Plateau.
On the boys’ side, La Salle College earned its seventh consecutive PCL title as senior Drew Brill claimed the individual title.
McManus posted a time of 21:56.88 while teammates Vanessa Schimony (11th - 23:48.48), Isabella Greco (14th - 24:33.30), Evelina Berzinska (15th - 24:29.29) and Sara Roberts (18th - 25:20.39) helped LC compile 48 points to edge runner-up Archbishop Ryan (53 points) and seize the program's first-ever PCL title. Junior Aleah Lazar was the top finisher for AR as she was fourth overall in a time of 22:54.93. Freshman Gwen Hamilton of Archbishop Wood was the girls' individual champion as she cruised to victory with a time of 20:47.04.
Brill recorded a winning time of 16:14.36 while teammates Cole Casadei (16:31.71) and Ryan McGinley (16:37.82) placed second and third, respectively, as the Explorers totaled 18 points on the afternoon ahead of Father Judge (73) and St. Joseph's Prep (93). Senior MIchael Glavin (16:46.51) of Archbishop Carroll finished fourth overall while Father Judge junior Joseph Walker (16:47.64) rounded out the top five on the boys' side.
The top-15 finishers in each race earned All-Catholic first-team distinction, while those placing 16-thru-25 garnered second-team distinction. Best of luck to all of the student-athletes competing in the District XII Championships on Oct. 27 at Belmont Plateau!
