Lansdale Catholic Wins PCL Girls' Volleyball Championship For The First Time Since 2014

RADNOR, PA - Senior Kateyln Dougherty registered 30 digs and sophomore Katie Royds added 21 assists as fourth-seed Lansdale Catholic captured the 2023 PCL Girls' Volleyball Championship with a hard fought 3-1 (25-9, 18-25, 25-15, 25-22) victory over No. 2 Archbishop Carroll on Friday evening before an enthusiastic crowd at Nerney Fieldhouse on the campus of Cabrini University.
The victory secured the Crusaders' first PCL volleyball title since 2014 which also marked the last time the program reached the finals.
The two teams traded points in the opening set before LC ran off 11 consecutive points to take a 19-7 lead en route to winning the first set by a 25-9 margin. Vying for its first PCL crown since 2019, Archbishop Carroll rebounded in the second set behind PCL MVP Molly Kelly to earn a 25-18 victory and even the match at one-game apiece. Tied at 12-12 in the third set, LC earned six straight points and then reeled off the final seven points of the set en route to a 25-15 win. The fourth set was back-and-forth throughout before Lansdale Catholic seized the momentum late for a 25-22 victory before a jubilant celebration in its enthusiastic student section.
Senior Madelyn McLane recorded 18 digs and junior Kate Picozzi compiled 16 assists on the evening for LC, which will face the PPL champion in the District XII 3A Championship at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, on the campus of Bonner & Prendie. Archbishop Carroll will play in the District XII 3A third-place match at 3:30 p.m. with a PIAA Championship at-large bid at stake at Bonner & Prendie. Its opponent will be determined on Oct. 30.
