RADNOR, PA - For the first time since 2020, the Archbishop Carroll/St. Katherine’s Day School Unified Bocce team captured the Bovino Cup with a 3-1 win over Archbishop Wood/Our Lady of Confidence on Monday afternoon on the campus of Archbishop Carroll High School.
The award is named in honor of current Special Olympics Pennsylvania Senior Advisor Mike Bovino, who was instrumental in helping the Archdiocese of Philadelphia launch Unified Sports during the 2018-19 school year. The match on Monday afternoon before a spirited gathering was a terrific event to begin Catholic Schools Week. The teams split the first two matches as ACHS/SKDS earned a 6-4 win while AW/OLC was victorious by an 8-4 margin. However, the Archbishop Carroll/St. Katherine’s Day School posted wins of 17-2 and 6-2 in the second round to secure the Cup.
Moving forward, Regional Bocce Championships will be held in late-February, followed by an opportunity to advance to the 2024 PIAA State Championships, held in conjunction with the PIAA Basketball Championship events at the Giant Center in Hershey (Mar. 21-23). Best of luck to both teams for the remainder of the 2024 season!
