Cardinal O'Hara Defeats Archbishop Carroll To Win 2024 PCL Girls' Volleyball Championship

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA - Junior Kerigan Patterson compiled 15 kills and 15 digs to lead a balanced attack as top-seeded Cardinal O'Hara notched a 3-1 win over No. 2 Archbishop Carroll in the finals of the 2024 PCL Girls' Volleyball Championship on Thursday evening before an electric atmosphere at The Griffin Complex on the campus of Gwynedd Mercy University.

The win secured the Lady Lions' third title in four seasons as they went undefeated (11-0) in PCL regular season play while droppping just one set versus league foes entering Thursday night's contest.

Seeking its first PCL crown since 2019, Archbishop Carroll jumped out to a 5-0 advantage in the opening game before COHS rallied for a thrilling 25-23 win. Led by senior setter Grace Plechner and juniors Ashlee Riccardi and Vickie Lehatto, the Patriots reeled off five consecutive points with the teams deadlocked at 19-19 to secure second set (25-21) to the delight of the enthusiastic ACHS student section.

However, Cardinal O'Hara registered wins in both the third (25-19) and fourth (25-13) games before a jubilant celebration in front of the team bench. Senior Bridget O'Reilly amassed 37 assists, classmate Julia Riley recorded 24 digs and a pair of aces, while juniors Ashlyn Gualtieri and Michelle Eburuoh registered 11 and 10 kills, respectively, for the Lady Lions.

Cardinal O'Hara will play for the District XII 4A Championship on Friday, Nov. 1, at 3:00 p.m. at Lincoln High School, while Archbishop Carroll will compete for the District XII 3A Championship at 2:30 p.m. at Cardinal O'Hara on Friday, Nov. 1. Opponents will be determined following the completion of the PPL Championship.
